Everything Was Wrong So We Sang Sentimental Songs...

Dear Blog, sorry it’s been almost a month; but it has been a little busy round here. I know I could have spoken to you before now - but at least there is plenty to tell you now.

Looking at the calendar it has been hectic (but in a totally good way). We went back home to Malin Head/Derry on March 14th, with our friends Alexi, Poonam, Jo and Neal. St. Patrick’s night was a good one this year - the last good one was probably seven years ago in Tufnell Park where Jamie and I made Irish Stew for everyone and I exclaimed ‘Let’s Get This Party Cock!’ instead of (a) Let’s Get This Party Rocking or (b) (a) Let’s Get This Party Cooking. You can see how it happened I’m sure, especially after a skinful of St. James’ Gate.

Cahir’s inaugural ‘STA night’ in Derry went really well. My DJ set was met with polite non-dancing; I can’t really blame them there were some face-melting tunes going on the system - but also lots of old funk. Derry is pretty funky I guess, but maybe not in Mason’s Bar (which was freezing) at half past ten on a Friday.

Derry (typical graffiti pictured), for those that don’t know is the sort of place where the evening begins at 10:30pm with a carry-out; proceeded by a dash to the bar by eleven. Normal weekday kicking out is at 1:30am - the weekend is anyone’s guess. It’s not so much Barcelona-style bar scene as alcoholic anarchy. I don’t think I’m doing anyone a disservice by saying that, it’s best to go with the flow... you can’t fight it in Derry. My point is ‘Memphis Will Be Laid To Waste’ by Norma Jean doesn’t go down very well until people are eight times over their legal limit.

Cahir on the other hand is a crowd pleasing mother-fucker, everyone was up and rocking to his set. I don’t wish to sound jealous but playing the theme from ‘Minder’ to kick things off was a fucking cheap shot. The fact that he now has a regular night in Derry called ‘Indie Beats’ (Beatz would be better I think) lays testament to just how good he is at this shit. Seriously. Honest. He is.
